If you don't know where the link is going to take you, think twice before clicking it.
Unfriendly websites can infect your computer with malware, and steal your personal information.
This site is a friendly reminder to use good judgement when clicking and retweeting links.
Here are some tips for the most common url shortening sites:
tinyurl.com has a cookie you can set to automatically take you to a preview page,
you can set the cookie by visiting: http://tinyurl.com/preview.php
is.gd also has a preview cookie that you can set - please do that by visiting: http://is.gd/setcookie.php
add a hyphen to the end of any is.gd link, to go direct to the preview page without setting the cookie.
With links from http://bit.ly, and http://j.mp you can add /info/ before the shortened url to get a preview of where the link will take you.
It requires copying and pasting the link into a browser, but it does provide some other interesting information.
• bit.ly example: http://bit.ly/13fn7c becomes http://bit.ly/info/13fn7c
• j.mp example: http://j.mp/13fn7c becomes http:/j.mp/info/13fn7c
FIREFOX USERS - install the bit.ly preview plugin to see where short urls link to.
PRO TIP: drag this BLIND LINKS BOOKMARKLET link up to your bookmarks toolbar. (works with all of these sites)
Just highlight a shortened link, and CLICK the bookmarklet. It doesnt get easier!
